Definition

The #EXTINF directive describes the media location that follows it. The traditional syntax begins with a duration, then optional IPTV attributes, a comma and the display title.

Syntax and example

#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="example.news" group-title="News",Example News
https://example.org/live/news.m3u8

Practical notes

For live streams, -1 is commonly used as the duration. Missing commas and unmatched quotes are frequent parsing errors.

Common mistakes

  • Using typographic quotation marks instead of straight quote characters.
  • Changing identifiers during bulk edits without updating related EPG data.
  • Assuming every IPTV player implements optional metadata in exactly the same way.
