tvg-id

tvg-id is a widely used IPTV metadata attribute that links a playlist entry to an external EPG/XMLTV channel identifier.

tvg-id="example.news.uk"

Definition

tvg-id is a widely used IPTV metadata attribute that links a playlist entry to an external EPG/XMLTV channel identifier.

Syntax and example

tvg-id="example.news.uk"

Practical notes

Prefer a stable exact identifier that matches the XMLTV <channel id="…"> value. Do not use tvg-id as a guaranteed unique stream key because multiple video variants can intentionally share the same guide.

Common mistakes

  • Using typographic quotation marks instead of straight quote characters.
  • Changing identifiers during bulk edits without updating related EPG data.
  • Assuming every IPTV player implements optional metadata in exactly the same way.
